John C. Burrus School of Fish

School of Fish is a free half-day clinic for children ages 8 through 15.  Held in June at LPBF's New Canal Lighthouse and the adjacent New Orleans lakefront seawall, children are taught knot tying and tackle, fish ID, casting, fishing with rods and reels, and boating safety by LPBF educators and Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries volunteers. We provide the fishing poles, life jackets, and lunch.  Students receive a Certificate of Participation and LPBF's School of Fish t-shirt.

The 2017 School of Fish was held on Tuesday, July 11 and Wednesday, July 12 from 8 a.m. until noon. Children attend on one of the two days.  Subscribe to our monthly e-newsletter, Basin Bulletin, to be notified of the dates for the 2018 School of Fish.
